Is there a wilder JGB show than this?! Unbelievable.

I love this show but I'm biased because I went to Rutgers although this was before I was there. What makes you call it "wild"?

Have you checked out fall 1982? Those shows are crazy good.

Just wild as in, intense.
So far I really haven't heard much JGB past 1980 that excites me. Still keeping an open mind, though.

Thanks for the link – enjoyed listening to this show after searching for an answer to the MLB quiz earlier. I almost went to this show. I lived not far away, and my brother had been attending Rutgers, but it wasn’t until the fall of the next year I saw JGB in Burlington VT. I remember connecting with I’ll Take A Melody in a sublime manner that evening, and share the Capt’s enthusiasm for the song. 11/14/81, check it out it’s on that site.

You're way ahead of me, I never saw JGB at all, I sure wish I did!

I did wonder whether you had seen a JGB show. I missed some nice opportunities to see them before that in NJ, although fortuitously I did get some JGB tapes back then. I saw a lot of Jerry shows later on. He was always awesome :)

I sure wish I'd have gotten my ass to some JGB shows!! And count me in for loving I'll Take a Melody. I love the simple themes of the lyrics, the fisherman, the musical notes, the Keep on Shining... to me beautiful. I think the song was written by Allen Toussaint. Jerry sang it with real passion, really made it his own story, like he could do with the Dylan songs - or really anything he loved.

ok, I've now listened to most of 11/14/81, and have to agree it's a great show! That "I'll Take a Melody" sounds different from most I've heard.

Really! People have their likes and dislikes re: JGB but I don't think I've ever heard anyone say they really can't listen to Feb/March 1980 (unless of course it's William Tell).

I'll Take a Melody is really a cool song. "Shine On, Keep on Shinin'! Shine On!"
Some of this solo stuff is too intricate for the heavy beast that was the GD. Nice to hear jerry play with some air beneath his wings...

"You know I've been called a dreamer
Dreams that never will come true..."

I LOVE "I'll Take a Melody"...Allen Toussaint wrote many a great song and that is certainly one of them. Jerry always did a great take on it.

Funny, that's the one I skipped :) It's not a bad song, but I'm somehow never really enthusiastic to hear it.

I couldn't find this show on that link.

Also, although there's tons of stuff on that site it appears that all you can do is stream an entire recording all the way through. No downloading, no pausing, no FF or RW, no skipping tracks. Click off of it, and you start all over again. Does anyone know how to get more functionality out of those files?

It's there (the show). I agree that site is frustrating that way! I don't know of any better way, though you can sometimes drag the thing-a-ma-bob along to advance to another song (even this doesn't always work, for me).
